Shorten a belt
Do you want to know how to shorten a belt?
You are in the right place and I will explain to you in a few simple steps how to bring your accessory back to the right size.
The thing you will have to avoid , if possible, is adding other holes in addition to the 5 already available. A belt with a long, dangling end is really ugly, don't you think?
The right thing to do is to shorten the belt on the buckle side . Obviously this is only possible if the buckle is not sewn but fixed with a screw. Almost all of our belts are designed to be shortened in this manner, except where specifically indicated.
The objective will always be to wear the belt closed in the third hole , i.e. the central one among the 5.
Here's how you should proceed to shorten the belt:
- Put on the belt and press the buckle where you would close the belt.
- Using a tape measure, measure the distance between this point and the 3rd hole. The resulting measurement will be how much you need to shorten the belt (for example 10cm)
- Unscrew the screw near the buckle and remove it. Be careful not to miss anything.
- With sturdy scissors, cut the belt by removing the amount you measured before (for example 10cm).
- Overlap the cut part on the belt and mark the point where you want to re-drill the hole for the screw
- Reinstall the buckle carefully.
- Now your belt will be the perfect size.
Remember that when ordering you can ask for a custom size. We will take care of adjusting the belt to your exact size. If you don't know how to find your size, consult our size guide .
